SB.BY: Why Belarus does not become more farmers - organic farming supporters

The law "On the production and handling of organic products" entered into force in 2019, the first in November, and farmers - the adherents of this direction will no longer be. What's the matter?

Fashion for a healthy lifestyle captures more and more people all over the world. And without organic food, as a more healthy and useful, can not do. Respectively, increasing demand for this product. number of shops, specializing in them, It is growing in Belarus. Entered into force the Law "On the production and handling of organic products". It would seem that, farmers all the cards in hand. But the lack of practical experience, ignorance of the laws of the market and certification procedures are very often a significant barrier to green farming.

The project participants and training "green agriculture without Borders"

JUST grow produce little, it is also necessary to be able (and be able!) tax. The competition calls for not only the high quality of the product itself, but also its packaging. In addition, the product must be clear and the domestic, and foreign consumers. To support the Belarusian producers of green agricultural products, last February, the project of the Latvia-Lithuania-Belarus Cross-Border Cooperation Program was launched as part of the European Neighborhood Instrument “Green agriculture without borders”, The two-year. The strategic objective of the Program: strengthen relations, increase opportunities and exchange of experience between people and organizations from Latvia, Lithuania and Belarus, implementation of joint projects, aimed at improving the overall quality of life in border regions. The project is in cooperation with the Minsk and Grodno Oblast Executive Committee and with the support of the Ministry of Agriculture implemented the Local Sustainable Development Fund "Innovation for Regions" with foreign partners: Dobele center of adult education and business support (Latvia) and Panevėžys Business Advisory Center (Lithuania). EU to finance the project provided nearly 300 thousand euros. By the way, local authorities and business support structures assist in attracting the farmers in the project's educational programs and holding mobile forums and fairs green and organic agricultural products.

Why is the rate on organic farming? As the project develops, and to whom it is useful? These and many other questions I addressed the coordinator of the project "Green Agriculture without borders" Galina Matyushenko:

- Organic agriculture is very important for Belarus. First of all, This concern for the environment. Secondly, the emergence of new farms leads to the creation of new jobs in the regions. And this is one of the most important objectives of sustainable development. The project is focused on farmers, who are willing to switch from the traditional economy to the green, and those, who are just planning to engage in organic farming.
